One of the biggest pain for the users of the Nest Protect (2nd Gen) smart alarm is to have to uninstall the device from the Nest app every time one needs to change the Wi-Fi settings on the device. So, if you changed your Wi-Fi password, you will need to remove the Nest Protect smart alarm from your Nest app, and then add it again with new Wi-Fi settings.

What is Nest Protect 2nd, Gen?

The 2nd generation Google Nest Protect features an exclusive Split-Spectrum smoke sensor and a microphone that enables complete Self-Monitoring if you forget to manually test it. It also has other sensors that detect humidity, occupancy, temperature, and ambient light.

Nest Protect uses information from its sensors to detect smoke or CO in your home, test itself, light your way in the dark, and more.

• A carbon monoxide sensor:

As it detects carbon monoxide (CO), an odorless, colorless and potentially deadly gas. The CO sensor lasts up to 10 years.

• Heat sensor:

It enables the Nest Protect to detect sudden rises in temperature.

• Humidity sensor:

It enables Steam Check. This Nest Protect exclusive feature uses an advanced software algorithm to reduce nuisance alarms caused by things like steam from your shower.

• Occupancy sensor:

It detects when you are walking under the Nest Protect to turn on Pathlight and light your way in the dark. And if you have a GoogleNest Learning Thermostat, the occupancy sensor also helps with Home/Away Assist, so you can save energy while you’re gone.

• Ambient light sensor:

It tells Nest Protects when you’ve shut off the lights for the night so it can automatically turn on Nightly Promise and Pathlight.

• Microphone:

It enables 2nd generation Nest Protects to test their speaker and horn each time you run a test. This feature is called Sound Check.

Thankfully, a new update is now available for the Nest app that solved this problem. Coming in as version 5.39, the update can install from the Play Store now.

Here’s how you can change the Wi-Fi Settings on your Nest Protect 2nd Gen easily using the updated Nest app.

1. Make sure you have updated the Nest app to version 5.39 (or above) from the Play Store.
2. Open the Nest app.
3. Go to Settings, and select Home info.
4. Now, tap Select Home Wi-Fi help.
5. Choose the device you want to update.
