In December last year, Xiaomi released on the home market entry-level smartphones Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus at an affordable price (a cheaper model Redmi 5A was introduced two months earlier). It would seem that only six months have passed, and the manufacturer has already prepared a replacement for them. Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A, like their predecessors, debuted in China. Both new items received a very minor design update, but internal changes are quite significant.
Redmi 6
Compared to last year’s Redmi 5, this model of the smartphone received a smaller screen size (5.45 inches against 5.7), with the same resolution (1440 × 720 pixels) and the aspect ratio (18: 9). The device is equipped with SoC MediaTek Helio P22, which replaced Snapdragon 450. This is the eight-core chipset, created using the technology of 12-nm process technology. Its performance is equivalent to Snapdragon 625, while it is more energy efficient than its competitor by almost 48%. Memory in Redmi 6 is more. Users will be offered options with 3, 4 GB of RAM and 32, 64 GB of flash memory. The microSD card slot remained in place.
Redmi 6 received a dual main camera and support for AI functions, such as portrait mode and background blur. The resolution of the sensors is 12 and 5 Mp. The front camera is represented by a 5 Mp module. There is a face recognition function. The capacity of the battery has decreased from 3300 to 3000 mAh, although this should not be noticeable on autonomy. There is a smartphone on Android 8.1 Oreo, the exact version of MIUI is not yet known.

Redmi 6A
The younger model got exactly the same as the Redmi 6, a screen 18: 9 measuring 5.45 inches with a resolution of 1440 × 720 pixels. The hardware core was the quad-core chipset Helio A22 – the first budget SoC MediaTek, created on a 12-nm process technology. As for memory, in Redmi 6 we are currently offered one option – 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage.
The device is equipped with a 13-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front camera with artificial intelligence support. The battery capacity and software version are identical to the older model.
