How to Force Install Android 10 Update on Galaxy S9/S9+

Force Install Android 10 Update: The stable Android 10 update located with One UI 2 is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ handsets. We have also added the download links of the stable firmware for the devices, and also the installation guides to help you install the updates. The stable Android 10 update is now available as builds DTAA in Europe and DTA5 in the US. However, it is available with full software version being G960FXXU7DTAA and G965FXXU7DTAA for S9/S9+ respectively in Europe. Also, G960USQU7DTA5 and G965USQU7DTA5 for S9/S9+ respectively in the US.

How to Force Install One Android 10 One UI 2 update on Galaxy S9, S9 Plus

Warning!

Don’t try anything given on this page if you do not fully know what you are doing. In case any damage occurs, we won’t be responsible. Also, make sure your model no. must be the same as your device with model no. of the download file.

Compatibility

This guide is compatible only for the Galaxy S9/S9+ handsets. Don’t try this on any other device as you might end up damaging your device and permanently brick it.

Also, ensure that you back up all the important data on your Galaxy S9.

Galaxy S9 Android 10 firmware

For Europe, Asia, and Australia, unlocked model SM-G960F:
- Version DTAA (For Germany, but works fine for all the regions in Europe, Asia, Australia, and more)
For carrier locked US model SM-G960U:
- Version DTA5 (Xfinity Mobile firmware, also work for all the carriers including T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, etc. but you may lose some features if any)
For unlocked US models SM-G960U1:
- Not launched yet

Galaxy S9+ Android 10 firmware

For Europe, Asia, and Australia, unlocked model SM-G965F:
- Version DTAA (For Germany, but works well for all the regions in Europe, Asia, Australia, and more)
For carrier locked US model SM-G965U:
- Version DTA5 (Xfinity Mobile firmware, also it work for all the carriers including T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, etc. but you may lose carrier-specific features if any)
For unlocked US models SM-G965U1:
- Not launched yet

Instructions

Step 1:

Firstly, make sure you have enabled ‘OEM unlock‘ under the Developer options in the Settings app.

Step 2:

Also, Install Samsung USB driver. Double-click the .exe file of drivers to start the installation.

Step 3:

Also, download Odin PC software (latest version, 3.13.3).

Step 4:

Now Extract the firmware file now. Then use free software like 7-zip for this. Install 7-zip, then right-click on firmware file and under 7-zip, choose ‘Extract here’. Here you should get files in .tar.md5 format now. We will be loading this file into Odin, to be installed on the device.

Step 5:

Extract the Odin file. You should get the Odin exe file.

Step 6:

Also, Disconnect your Galaxy device from the computer if it is connected.

Step 7:

Boot your device into download mode:

Switch off your device. Wait for 6-7 seconds once the screen goes off.
Now connect the device to a computer using the USB cable while pressing and holding Volume down + Bixby buttons together until you see the Warning screen (image).
Also, press Volume Up to continue to download mode.

Step 8:

Double-tap on Odin .exe file to open the Odin window. But be careful with Odin, and do just as said to prevent issues.

Step 9:

Also, Connect your device now using the USB cable. Odin should recognize your device. Once it recognizes you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box under the bottom left. Also, the first box under ID: COM will appear a no. and turn its background blue.

Remember you cannot proceed until you get the Added!! the message, that confirms Odin has recognized your device.
Also, if you don’t get Added!! the message, then install/re-install drivers again and use the original cable that came with the device. Mostly, drivers create a problem (look at step 2 above).
You can also try different USB ports on your PC too.

Step 10:

Now load the firmware files into Odin. Tap the AP button on Odin and then choose the .tar.md5 file from above.

Click on the BL tab, and choose the file starting with BL text.
Tap on the AP tab, and choose the file starting with AP text.
Also, Click on the CP tab, again select the file beginning with CP text.
[Different a Lil!] Tap on the CSC, and choose the file starting with HOME_CSC text. If the HOME_CSC file isn’t available, then select the file beginning with CSC text.

Info: Once you load files, Odin analyzes the md5 sum of the firmware file, which takes time. So, just wait until that’s done and the firmware file is loaded. Don’t worry if Odin gets unresponsive for a while, it’s normal. Binary size will also display in Odin.

Step 11:

Tap on the Options tab, and remember the Re-partition checkbox is NOT selected. Don’t use the PIT tab, ever.

Now go back to the Log tab now, as it will show the progress of the firmware installation when you hit the start button in the next step.

Step 12.

Check that everything is okay as mentioned above. Once check, tap the Start button on Odin now to begin flashing the firmware on your device.

Wait until the installation is finished, once your device will reboot automatically. You’ll get the PASS message upon a successful installation from Odin.

Some bugs you may run into, and with the respective solution.

If Odin gets stuck at setup connection, then do this all again. Now disconnect your device, close Odin, boot device into download mode again, open Odin, and then choose the file and flash it again as said above.
Also, If you get FAIL in the top left box, then flash the file again.

All Done!

After you install the Android 10 firmware on your S9/S9+, it will reboot. Make sure it will take some time to restart, so calm down. However, once done, it will start optimizing apps, after which you will have Android 10 running on your device.
